I forgot to mention perhaps the biggest event of the day. In fact, some may have been wagering money on the outcome. After the 5th inning at PNC Park, the fans are treated to the Great Pierogi race (a rip off of the Sausage Race in Milwaukee). There are four contestants: Jalapeno Hannah, Cheese Chester, Sauerkraut Saul, and Oliver Onion. These baked dumplings braved the 90+ temps for the race and Cheese Chester blew away the competition.
This is serious business here in Pittsburgh. One of the Pierogies was actually fired for making disparaging remarks about the Pirates organization.http://www.postgazette.com/pg/10170/1066854-63.stm
