207 miles this morning from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh.
Crossing the Allegheny River on the Roberto Clemente Bridge.
I couldn't have been more than 25 rows behind home plate for on $27 (face value). In Yankee Stadium, that same seat would have run you $300. Of course, the quality is a little better there!
Sampling some of the local fare, I ate a cheesesteak from Primanti Brothers. At first I thought they placed the sandwich on top of some french fries (bonus). But when I went to add ketchup (Heinz of course), I discovered the fries were actually IN the sandwich and cole slaw too. Pretty tasty. (No pix) I washed that down with a Pipe Organ Pale Ale - more on that later.
As for the game, the Phillies blew a 5-2 lead allowing 6 runs in the 7th inning (thank you Jose Contreras). There were lots of Phillies fans making the cross-state trip and I'm sure they went home unhappy.
For dinner, I went to Church. That's right, Church. Church Brew Works (http://www.churchbrew.com/) is a brewery in an actual church. My kind of religion!
The church was built in 1903, but after the steel and glass mills had closed down there were more churches than people. So they were consolidated and someone came up with a great idea to open a brewery in 1996. Tasty stuff. I had a Pious Monk Dunkel and M (a black I.P.A.)
On the road at 6:30 Monday morning heading to Detroit for the Tigers & Orioles at 1.

ReplyDeleteIn Detroit, if you have time to go to the suburbs you can visit the last place Hoffa was seen alive. Machus Red Fox in Bloomfield - close suburb of Detroit.
and/or go to greek town!
I vote for "World of Pigeons" becoming an alternate slogan for NYC. Tell me you grabbed one of those Church pint glasses!
